Doubrava Chateau
Historic Buildings
History of the building
Doubrava Chateau is located in the Aš region, near the spa town of Bad Elster. Originally a Renaissance structure, the property was long owned by the Zedtwitz family. It was later rebuilt in the Baroque style as a small château with an adjoining farmyard, and in the second half of the 19th century it was remodeled in the Neo-Gothic style into a representative residence of the Aš branch of this noble family. The building is a characteristic example of the romantic architectural ambitions of Czech rural nobility in the latter half of the 19th century. Doubrava Chateau is the only surviving residence of the Zedtwitz family in the Aš region, as their other estates in the area were destroyed after 1945.
Our contribution
We acquired the property in 2024. Since then, initial stabilization and preservation works have been carried out, including the repair of key roof structures and the replacement of roofing materials. At the same time, an initial massing study was prepared to explore the possible future vision for the site. The study was developed in cooperation with the National Heritage Institute (Loket branch) to ensure a sensitive integration of modern elements with the original architecture.
